The Death of Lord Jaraxxus

Javaed posted on September 14, 2009

Time to continue my series of Shadow Priest strategies for the bosses of Trial of the Crusader.  This time we're going to take a look at Lord Jaraxxus.  This fight is actually a bit easier than the previous fight, but there are a few things you can do to really optimize your DPS.

This is basically a Tank & Spank with adds and a lot of raid damage.  60 seconds into the fight, a Dark Portal is created.  If you're close to the portal, you take damage, so avoid it.  The portal also summons a Mistriss of Pain.  She has to be DPSed down fast, as she does some nasty damage, but she's not that big of an annoyance overall.  Keep your DOTs rolling on Jaraxxus while you kill her.  60 seconds later, you'll get an Infernal Volcanoe.  This will summon a bunch of Infernals that run around the room smacking people.  They have minimal HP, but tend to move around a bunch, so opportunities to Mind Sear are rare.  Pop Shadow Word: Pain on each one, then go back to Jaraxxus.  The only exception would be if your group is short of range DPS, and then you should Dot up 2-3 at a time while you focus them down.

Now, he has a few abilities you should watch out for.  He casts Fell Fireball throughout the fight.  This needs to be interrupted, so if your melee isn't available for some reason, make sure to use Silence.  If somebody gets hit by this attack, they're left with a nasty DoT on them, but you can dispell it.

The next nasty attack is Legion Flame.  This deals damage to you every second, and causes you to spawn patches of green fire under your feet every second for 6 seconds.  An excellent tactic is to pop Dispersion when you have Legion Flames, as you'll take minimal damage from the fire patches you spawn.  This way you can stack them all in one spot instead of creating a large line or patch of fire.

The final big thing you should watch for is when Lord Jaraxxus buffs himself with Nether Power.  This is 5 stack buff that increases his spell damage by 20% for each stack, lasting 30 seconds. If you have a mage, they'll Spell Steal it.  If you lack a mage, this buff needs to be dispelled, and should be dispelled quickly.

Those are the major things you should look out for.  Really though, this fight is pretty easy so long as you manage the adds and avoid taking too much raid damage.
